This technological proposal addresses the design and implementation of an Internet of Things (IoT) based system for the manipulation of a MicroMaster 420 variable frequency drive, with the objective of improving the starting of a 5 Hp three-phase motor in industrial applications. The Ubidots platform was used to monitor and control in real time critical variables, such as frequency, current, voltage, power and power factor, through an RS-485 communication module. The system was implemented in a physical control board designed according to electrical drawings, and the integration with IoT allowed automatic adjustments in real time, improving the operational efficiency of the motor. The main focus of the study was the reduction of current peaks during motor starting by comparing traditional starting methods, such as direct starting and star-delta starting, with the use of variable frequency drives. The tests performed showed that the use of the frequency inverter significantly reduces the starting current, going from peaks in excess of 50 amperes in traditional methods, to approximately 7.9 amperes with the inverter set at 60 Hz. This study reaffirms the relevance of frequency inverters integrated with IoT as an effective solution to improve the performance of electric motors in industrial environments. The implementation of the proposed system contributes to energy and operational optimization, promoting smoother starts and extending motor life.
