The purpose of this research was to assess climate risk in the Los Illinizas Ecological Reserve and to propose strategies for incorporating climate change into its management plan. The problem addressed is the increasing vulnerability of ecosystems to future climate projections, especially under the RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios, which indicate an increase in temperatures and significant variability in precipitation. The main objectives included assessing projected changes in temperature and precipitation, determining the vulnerability and adaptive capacity of ecosystems, and evaluating the effectiveness of adaptation measures implemented in the reserve. The methodology employed combined climate projection analysis using tools such as R Studio and QGIS, environmental vulnerability assessment and community participation to ensure the sustainability of the proposed strategies. The results showed a significant increase in ecosystem vulnerability under the RCP 8.5 scenario, underlining the need for more robust adaptation strategies. Reforestation, water management and infrastructure measures, together with the active participation of communities, proved to be effective in improving the resilience of the reserve. Project impacts include technical advances in climate risk modelling, social benefits through community empowerment, environmental improvements such as the recovery of vegetation cover, and economic benefits by preventing future damage and strengthening the local economy. In conclusion, the research provides a solid scientific basis for the integration of climate change into the management of Los Illinizas Ecological Reserve, highlighting the importance of continuous monitoring and constant adaptation of strategies to ensure the ecological and social sustainability of the reserve.
